Erin Kipp
Viola
Erin Kipp is an American violist currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. She enjoys a varied career as a soloist, chamber musician, orchestral musician and teacher. As a Utah native, Erin began her viola studies with world renowned violist David Dalton. Erin then went on to receive her Bachelor’s degree in music from the University of Utah studying with Roberta Zalkind. While at the U, Erin was also part of the Mount Olympus Quartet, and together they won first prize in the inaugural Utah Chamber Music Competition. During her undergrad, she had the opportunity to study with Herbert Lindsberger at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, Austria. During her time at the Mozarteum, she was asked to perform as a soloist as part of the Schlosskonzerte Series in and around Salzburg. Captivated by the region and its culture, she returned the following summer to assume the role of associate principal viola in an opera festival orchestra in Eutin, Germany. After graduating from the University of Utah, Erin went to the University of Michigan where she studied under the renowned orchestral musician and soloist, Yizhak Schotten. While at the U of M, Erin was part of an ensemble that recorded Darius Milhaud’s “L’Orestie” which garnered a Grammy nomination in 2015 for Best Opera Recording. Once leaving University of Michigan, Erin won a position with the Ft. Wayne Philharmonic. Erin enjoyed 8 seasons playing in the Philharmonic before moving to Salt Lake City. As a freelance musician, she can now be found regularly performing with the Utah Symphony as well as other musical groups in the area. Erin is passionate about teaching and maintains a private violin and viola studio. Her students have gotten into some of the most prestigious conservatories and music schools in the US and have gone on to win orchestral jobs themselves. When not performing, Erin can be found enjoying time outside with her husband and their two Whippets.
